The director deciphers the dazzling success of her family business started by her grandparents, the "Borekas Sammy” chain, and examines the reasons for the painful fall that left the family reeling.
Through the journey of discovering family history – which begins with the arrival of the Bulgarian baker’s family to the nascent country of Israel and continues into the seventies and eighties – the director/granddaughter understands what happened between the siblings when money and honor began to flow in, and how difficult yet necessary it is to love and forgive. This is a film about identity and belonging that tells the unique story of Bulgarian Jewry in Israel and describes the journey of bourekas – from bakeries in
Bulgaria and Turkey to Jerusalem Street in Jaffa and then to every home in Israel.
