Like Barbara, the greatest chanson singer of France, Sapho too has adopted a stage name to use in her private life. Also like Barbara, Sapho is of Jewish origin. Like Barabra, Sapho also sings from a place of inner truth and creative freedom.
Both are revolutionary artists with an uncompromising artistic statement.
Sapho, who was born in Morocco and live in France, was often called “the ethnic Barbara.” The similarities between the two led her to record a tribute album to the French chanson giant, and to give her songs a renewed life and bold personal interpretation.
The success of the album, which came out last December, was brought to the stage by Sapho in a special Cabaret performance especially for voice and piano, with which she will come for the first time to Israel for the Mediterranee Festival.
Sapho performed previously in Israel in the salute to Umm Kulthum at the Culture Hall in Binyanei Ha’uma and saluted the French classics, to Barbara.
